William Carlis Johnson, fondly known as Carlis, left us on November 27, 2023, in Salem, VA. Born on September 21, 1935, in Lebanon, VA to the late Slemp and Pearlie Johnson.

He was a dedicated truck driver for over 60 years at Webb's Oil Corp. An avid outdoorsman, Carlis found solace in hunting, fishing, and camping. A true family man, he adored his family dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Slemp and Pearlie Johnson; brother, Clyde Johnson; son, Pete Johnson; and his special canine friend, Lucky.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Virginia H. Johnson; daughters, Patty Sumner (Stanley) of Salem, VA, Teresa "Tweety" Walker (Terry) of Roanoke, VA; son, Allen Johnson (Karen) of Vinton, VA; daughter-in-law, Rita Johnson of Abingdon, VA; brother, Kenneth Johnson (Joyce) of Lebanon, VA; sisters, Betty J. Cassell of Abingdon, VA, Nancy J. Wood of Lebanon, VA, Shirley Wilson (Mike) of Lebanon, VA; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home Chapel, with the funeral service to be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 12 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, as we bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
