Vincent Valander Pannell, Sr. , was born the youngest of three sons to the late Mr. Thomas Arthur Pannell, Sr., and the late Gerlean Elizabeth Pannell on April 8, 1951. As the soothing song, Goodness of God, played, Vincent entered eternal rest on the afternoon of July 5, 2023. His devoted wife of 48 years, Evangelist Dana "Grace" Franklin Pannell, adoring granddaughter, Mrs. Imani (Cameron) Carter of Charlotte, NC, and loving niece, Maureen Martin of Roanoke, VA had the holy privilege of comforting him as he transitioned. Vincent believed in Jesus for salvation later in life and was a member of Maple Street Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia.

Vincent was preceded in death by his dearest aunt, Cloteal White James; brother, Thomas Arthur "Chase" Pannell,  Jr., and cherished daughter, Tawanika Pannell-Penn.

Vincent was a devoted father and grandfather. Evenings and weekends found him training and coaching his daughter and his son at tennis, baseball, softball, and basketball. When the grandchildren started to arrive, he shared with them his love of sports and bonded with them in their athletic pursuits and academic endeavors.

Vincent and Dana resolved to live each day with joy and laughter. He spent time with family, watched sports, and wagered at games while keeping up his stamina by snacking on Dana's lip-smacking chicken wings. The Baltimore Ravens and New York Yankees were his favorite teams and he was known to root for Virginia Tech prior to Tyrod Taylor's draft.

Vincent was an Addisonian, Class of 1970. He also attended Virginia Tech and John Tyler Community College. Vincent retired as a laboratory supervisor from the Western Virginia Water Authority at the age of 55 after 30 years of service. Practical and reliable, Vincent was a landlord in the Northwest community of Roanoke for several years. His love of vehicles made him a five-star mechanic and an enthusiastic owner of hundreds of vehicles throughout the years. He enjoyed driving and logged many miles on his favorite roads of the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. He even came out of retirement for a while to drive delivery for Atlas Motor Parts.

Vincent was a poet and enjoyed keeping a journal of daily life. He was a private man and a good listener. He gave people his undivided attention and always had a story to share.
