Veletta (Vickie) Taylor Alderman, 84, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Vickie was the last of 13 children born to Edgar Jackson Taylor and Lula Margaret Taylor. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Diane Alderman.

She is survived by her husband, of 68 years, Ray Nelson Alderman; her son, Steven Ray Alderman (Becky); her daughter, Tammy A. Runion (Timothy); grandchildren, Austin Alderman (Katie), Bentley Alderman (Kayleigh), Kinsey Migliarese (Matt), Haley Sharp (Jason), Michaela Haynes (Zach); great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Migliarese, Jozie Migliarese, Charley Sharp, Tobin Sharp, Arlo Alderman, and 1 more on the way.

Born in Wilson, Oklahoma in 1937, her family suffered the fallout of the Great Depression & Dust Bowl on the Great Plains when she was a little girl. Moving to Virginia after marriage at 15, she became a mother, homemaker, and went on to complete her degree to become a nurse.

Her love of family and hospitality was second to none. Whether preparing a huge meal for family gatherings, neighbors in need, or a quick lunch - that she could whip up in a "jiffy," she never lost her desire to give. She made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ many years ago & her faith has now become sight…

The family would like to sincerely thank Bobbie, a special angel, and Legacy Hospice for giving Mom such great care over these last few months.

A Celebration of Life for Vickie will be held at Valley Funeral Home (1609 Peters Creek Road NW Roanoke, Virginia 24017) on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 2 p.m.
