Obituary

Thomas Lee Huffman, better known as "Tuckie," peacefully departed from this world on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the age of 71. He has embarked on a new journey beyond our sight, where his welcome through the Gates of Heaven was far warmer than his homecoming from Vietnam.

Tuckie proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War and was later stationed at the Marine base in Quantico, VA upon his arrival home. He later served in the National Guard and Marine Reserve. His deep sense of duty and love for his country was evident throughout his life, a testament to his 33-year career at the Veterans Administration, where he continued to serve and support his fellow veterans. Tuckie also spent 15-plus years at Kroger's in Spartan Square in Salem.

Tuckie is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Bennett and Thelma Marie Huffman; his sister, Norma Jean; and great-nephew, Dylan Martin.

Tuckie was a man of his word, sealing many deals with a firm handshake. He lived his life with unwavering integrity and an indomitable work ethic, always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Tuckie's infectious laugh and upbeat personality could light up any room, and his warm heart welcomed everyone he met as a friend. To know Tuckie was to know a true friend. He believed in punctuality, often arriving 30 to 60 minutes early, a testament to his strong commitment to his principles. Tuckie's unwavering convictions and integrity serve as a true example of how we should all live our lives to the fullest. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be missed dearly.

He leaves behind his daughter, Latisha Marie of New Castle, VA, his son, Jeramy Thomas of Catawba, VA, as well as his granddaughters, Kendra Lane, Courtney DeHart, and Sara Ciddinger. Tuckie is also survived by his sister, Debbie Bass (Jesse); his brothers, Jerry Huffman (Harvey) and Mike Huffman (Regina); and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Tuckie's remarkable life on Monday, October 2, 2023, at 11 a.m. at The Grace Assembly of God, located at 5530 Catawba Valley Dr. in New Castle, VA 24070. Let us come together to honor and remember the incredible man that Tuckie was, sharing stories, laughter, and love as we celebrate his enduring legacy.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
