Shelby Shires Welch, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, just ten days before her 61st birthday. She was born on June 16, 1964, in Clifton Forge, Virginia, and lived a life filled with compassion, laughter, and love for both people and animals.

Shelby had a deep affection for animals, especially her beloved dogs, who brought her endless comfort and joy. She loved spending time at the beach and being outdoors, where she found peace and happiness. A passionate sports fan, she proudly cheered for the University of Virginia Cavaliers and the Washington Redskins.

Shelby was known for her kind heart and generous spirit. She offered love and support freely, touching the lives of those around her with warmth and authenticity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Frances Shires, and her sister, Peggy Fridley.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Mary Buckland and her husband Donald; brother-in-law, Chris Fridley; her nephew, John Fridley and his wife Kellie, along with their sons Skyler, Archer, and Reed; and her daughter, Ashley Thayer and her husband Carl, along with their children Lelan, Isaiah, Xanden, and Knox.
