Scott Austin Setchel, affectionately known as Austin, age 23, of Roanoke, Virginia departed this life on December 30, 2022. He was born in Roanoke, Virginia, on November 6, 1999, to Scott Setchel and Kim Setchel, who survive.

Austin is preceded in death by his grandfather, Raymond "Satch" Setchel; great-grandparents, Harvey and Bea Adams, and John and Margaret Setchel; his grandparents, Ronald and Martha Ozmar; and his uncle, Mark Setchel.

Austin graduated from Northside High School in 2018 as an honor student. While attending high school, Austin was a member of The Pride of Northside Marching Band and helped develop the NHS pep band for the home basketball games. He was amongst a select few that were invited to play with Virginia Tech Honor Band; he humbly accepted the invitation and played with pride.

Austin was an avid skater; a trait inherited from his father. He was a member of the OMNI speed skate team and in 2007, he made the National Championship in Lincoln, Nebraska. Austin enjoyed working on his cars with the boys, who all dearly miss him. He especially loved his time doing tree work at Suntel Tree Services.

Those left to cherish Austin's memory are his parents, Scott and Kim Setchel; his sister, Hannah Hight; his grams, Peggy Setchel; his girlfriend, Alyssa Hogan; and many friends who are family to the Setchels.

A service to commemorate Austin's life will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2022, at Valley Funeral Home Chapel. The family will begin receiving friends at 2 p.m. and the service will begin at 3 p.m. with Charlie Brisco officiating.
