Ruby Mae Owens, 95, of Elliston, VA passed away on January 24, 2020 peacefully at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jenny Austin Bowles; husband, Alfred S. Owens; daughter, Nannie Bell Furrow, and husband, Woodrow; great-grand daughter, Heather Ann; and siblings: Warren Bowles, Frank Bowles and wife, Lorrine, Wes Bowles and wife, Claudine, Harvey Bowles and wife, Edna, Martha Jane Bowles, and Mary Owens and husband, Willard.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Hale and husband, Glen; grandchildren: Patricia Graham and husband, Lewis, Albert Furrow and wife, Doris, Judy Kessinger, Glenus Mills, and Glen (Lee) Hale, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ruby was a homemaker who loved her family. She was an avid gardener and loved to tend roses and wander flea markets. She was a hard worker and the solid backbone of her home with poise and strength. She loved to travel; among her favorite places were the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee and Kissimmee, Florida where her fascination showed during glass-bottom boat rides. She loved to go fishing and to cook. Whether you were hungry or not, you ate what she fixed! To her, ice cream was acceptable before school for breakfast.  She was the most loving and beautiful lady and dearly loved her family. She passed away 2-weeks shy of her 96th birthday. She will be missed by all those she knew and her family who loved her.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 7-9 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home and Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27; burial will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens; officiant, George Finley.
