Romia Mae Smith, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, in Roanoke, Virginia. She was born on April 16, 1950, to the late Lloyd Smith and Margaret Smith.
In addition to her parents was preceded in death by her sisters, Lois Thomas and Betty Smith; her sisters‑in‑law, Sherry Smith, Rebecca "Becky" Smith, and Vickie Smith; her nephew, Shawn Thomas; her nephew, David Smith; her great‑nephew, Mathew Carper; and her niece‑in‑law, Michelle Thomas.
Romia loved her family deeply and found joy in every moment spent with them. Her faith and her church were central to her life, and she carried that devotion with grace. She enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, reading, and working through puzzle books. Some of her greatest happiness came from watching her great‑nephew Nathaniel play football and cheering for Jerry as he ran track.
Romia is survived by her brothers, Robert Smith, James Ralph Smith, Frank Willis Smith, and Joseph Elmer Smith; her sisters, Clair (Warren) Spradlin, Cora Smith, and Tammie Smith; and a special sister, Rosie Shelton, who held a cherished place in her heart. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Romia will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love for others, and the warmth she brought to every room. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
