Robert Lee "Rob" "Bubba" Wilson, 72, passed away on May 16, 2026, in Roanoke, Virginia. Born on August 28, 1953, Rob lived a life defined by hard work, deep loyalty to his family, and a vibrant, independent spirit. A proud Vietnam veteran, Rob honorably served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army. Following his military service, he went on to become a Master Electrician at Varney Electric, a trade he mastered and worked in until his retirement. In his younger years, Rob also worked at both a local radio station and a gas station—two jobs he truly loved and always remembered fondly.

Rob was a man who took care of his own, selflessly stepping up to care for his stepfather, Charles Knapp, until his passing. Those who knew him well will remember his lively younger years spent at Chaps bar, as well as his wide array of passions. He had a deeply generous heart, consistently supporting causes close to his mind and soul, including the ASPCA, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Children's Hospital, and local wildlife conservation efforts. He was also an avid collector of historic coins and a true car enthusiast who loved owning and racing beautiful, fast cars. In his final days, Rob found immense comfort, joy, and peace in the quiet company of his beloved furry companion, Freya.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Wilson Sr.; his mother, Mary E. Wilson Knapp; his stepfather, Charles Knapp; his brother, James's "Jimmy" Wilson Jr.; his sister, Sherry Reams; and his brother-in-law, David Reams Sr.

Rob's memory will be cherished by his surviving family, including his brother, Jeff Wilson, and wife Kim; his sister, Tanya Wilson; his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Wilson, Brittany Wilson, Chris Wilson, Christy Pierce, and Mary Higgins; as well as Damian Pierce, Lance Pierce, David Lee Reams, Desiree Reams, David Reams, Curtis Wilson, and many extended family members and friends.

A graveside service with military honors was held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia.
