Robert Lee
Vandyke
Dec 23, 1949 — Oct 25, 2024
Robert "Bob" Lee VanDyke, 74, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024. A lifelong businessman and friend to many, Bob was known for his kindness and caring nature, both in business and in life.
As the owner of several service stations and tire shops in the Roanoke Valley, Bob never met a stranger. His customers appreciated not only his expertise but also his warmth, often leaving with both their cars fixed and their spirits lifted. Bob had a God-given talent for diagnosing cars just by listening to their sounds, putting countless vehicles back on the road and making sure customers left satisfied.
In his "younger years"—as he'd say with a laugh—Bob loved hunting and fishing, making the most of his time outdoors. His greatest joy was to live life to the fullest, savoring every moment and every friendship along the way.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Henry VanDyke and Winona VanDyke, as well as the many beloved four-legged family members—his cherished dogs, cats, and horses—who now await him in Heaven.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Tonya O. VanDyke, his son, Bobby VanDyke (Susan), his adopted son, David Scott, and many other loving family members and work family, especially those at Robert Youngs Auto and Truck Inc.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and especially the 9th-floor intensive care unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial for their exceptional care of Bob and his family during this challenging time.
Bob's family finds peace in knowing, as he believed, that "We will see each other again in Heaven."
