Robert Patterson
Lee
Jul 21, 1945 — Dec 24, 2023
Salem
Robert Patterson Lee, or as he was affectionately known, Bob, fell asleep in death on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Friendship Salem Terrace in Salem, Virginia. He was 78 years old.
His battle with Alzheimer's Disease in recent years showed his courage in facing insurmountable challenges with faith, humor, and determination. And humor he had in abundance, just ask anyone who knew him. Many of his "Bob-isms", as they were called, are fondly remembered, and recounted with smiles and laughter.
He was a faithful servant of the Most High God, Jehovah, serving as an Elder with unyielding love and compassion in his congregation. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend. That love and devotion were returned by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bob was born in Roanoke, Virginia on July 21, 1945, to the late Robert Edward Lee and Ruby Patterson Lee. He eventually moved to the Durham, NC area where he lived for the next 30 years, returning to the Roanoke Valley in 2022.
He retired from the City of Durham after 27 years of service in the Water Management Department as a Plant Operations Coordinator. Prior to that, he was self-employed as a tile and plastering contractor where he more than excelled in his trade.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Lee of Brandon Oakes in Salem, Virginia; his sister, Roberta Lee Cromer of Salem, Virginia; his friends, co-workers, and those he helped in so many ways along the course of his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, James "Bucky" Edward Lee; and his son, James "Matt" Matthew Lee.
The family would like to lovingly thank all those at Good Samaritan Hospice, who helped make Bob's last days pain-free and comfortable. Also, the many staff members at Friendship Salem Terrace Memory Care Unit, especially Ricki Hall, for their love, attention, and care of our precious Bob.
You are encouraged to leave a comment and share any stories or photos of Bob you'd like on this Memorial Page for his Tribute Book.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Salem Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses (2241 Mill Ln., Salem, VA 24153). The Zoom link below will allow those who cannot attend in person to attend virtually:
