Reginald Elsom Vaughan, Jr., affectionally known as Sonny, age 74, of Salem, Virginia, passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 20, 1948, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Reginald E. Vaughan, Sr., and Mary F. Jones Vaughan.
Sonny served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1971, with a tour in Vietnam. He retired from Hammerhead Hardware in Salem, VA after 20 years of employment.
Sonny's love of wood crafts became more than just a hobby, he was exceptionally good at it and had an eye for perfection. He was happiest in his shop, working with his scroll saws and teaching his craft to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, most recently his great-grandson, Anthony.
Sonny was
preceded
in death by
his parents, Reginald E. Vaughan, Sr., and Mary Frances (Jones)Vaughan.
Those left to cherish Sonny's memory are his loving and devoted wife, Lorraine Ulrich Vaughan; his son, Yancey Vaughan (Angie), his stepdaughters, Dawn Plymale (Leigh), Patty Clayton (Tommy), Pam Akers (Kevin), and Jodie Moore (Chris Widener); sister-in-law, Marge Lester; brother-in-law, Harry Ulrich (Kathleen); grandchildren, Kelsey, Nick, Nathan, Evan, Holly, Kyle, Chase, Katelyn, Chance, Kayla, Frankie, and Karlie; several great-grandchildren; special friends, Barry Stafford and Robert Moore and many other close friends and relatives.
The family is honoring Sonny's wishes of no service. Donations in memory of Sonny can be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) charity.
