Paul had a deep appreciation for nature and the beauty of the mountains. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and taking scenic drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway and back roads. He was also an avid sports fan who loved watching racing, baseball, softball and football.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Long, Sr.; his mother, Nellie Long; his sisters, Violet and Melita; and his grandson, Matthew Carper.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Carol Long; his children, Duane Long (Tabitha) and Crystal Long; his stepdaughters, Misti Carper and Amanda Carper (Jeffrey Robinson); his grandchildren, Dante Carper, Aaron Franich, Alexis Carper, Xavyer Carper, Caiden Carper, Timmy, Kelley, Brittany and Sean; his in-laws, Cynthia Requenez (Mario), Erin Churchill and Claudia Cook (Jim); his nephews, Randy, Robbie (Courtney), Ben Wells (Tiffany); and Karisa Barton and family.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 3 p.m. at Ridgewood Baptist Church, 703 Hemlock Road NW, Roanoke, VA 24017, with Pastor Dan Carawan officiating.

Paul will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love of family and his caring heart.
