Patricia Shifflett Day, 65, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away on April 7th 2026, is being lovingly remembered for a life defined by generosity, resilience, and a heart that never stopped giving. Born in Alexandria, Virginia, Patricia went on to spend 25 years in Craig County, where she built not just a home, but a sense of community. She had a rare gift for seeing what was needed and stepping in to make it happen. A woman with a heart of gold, she not only helped run the farm, but she also helped start a preschool, a library, a thrift store, she contributed to the beginnings of a medical center, and created spaces where people felt cared for and supported. She also worked at Baskin-Robbins, Greenfield Center, Merle Lynch, United Health Care and the Computer Learning Center—always bringing warmth, kindness, and connection wherever she went. At one point, she even opened an ice cream parlor and candy shop so her kids could learn, work, and be together—something that perfectly reflected who she was.

She is reunited in heaven with her husband, Jay Day; her father, William "Bill" Shifflett; and her stepfather, Daniel Patrick, who all preceded her in death.

She is survived by her mother, Sondra Patrick; her sisters, Donna Merryman (Jeff) and Allison Holt; her brother: Brady Shifflett (Liz); her children: Caitlyn Day, Courtney Day Booth (Sam), Stephanie Day Looney (Jacob), Nathan Day (Meghan), Dakota Disher Wilkie (Ben), and Shannon Fowler. She had several people who held a special place in her heart whom she loved as her own, At times of her life there were too many to mention but in her final months left here with us it was Keisha Robertson (Adam). She also loved her very special friend and the best neighbor, David Brown (Ann). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Emma Looney, Cassidy Day, Colton Looney, and Cameron Day.

She also held a special and meaningful place in the lives of Jayden Martin—her very first grandchild, long before the others, through the love and care she gave—along with Addamarie Robertson, Piper Robertson, Orion Robertson, and Aldyn Pollard, who, while not bound by biology, were fully and unquestionably her grandchildren in every way that mattered. Patricia found her greatest happiness in the simple, meaningful things—time with her grandchildren, the unconditional love of her puppy Theodore, and she also enjoyed her beautiful bird feeder, and well kept yard and flowers that Mr. Brown always took care of and made sure it brought her joy. She loved creating moments that brought people together. She had a way of making people feel seen, safe, and cared for.

One of the many lessons she passed down, one that will live on through her family, was to always "handle yourself with grace." It wasn't just something she said—it was how she lived.

Her legacy is not just in the things she built, but in the lives she shaped, the love she gave so freely, and the family she created—by blood and by choice. She will be missed!
