Melvin Ray
Moran
Sep 17, 1953 — Mar 10, 2025
Melvin Ray Moran, 71, of Troutville, VA, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025. Melvin was a wonderful husband. He was known for his love of Dr. Pepper and his long hair. He shared many memories, like having 19 people in the house during the holidays, filling the space with laughter and joy. He also held dear the enjoyable times he shared with his late wife, Denise.
Joining him in his simple life in 2022, was Joan Glass. They enjoyed concerts in Daleville, visits to the Safari Park, and stopping to get a burger—sitting in the car, listening to WROV while they ate. Melvin was always there to hold her hand or help her step up and down a curb. They carried firewood in and stood by it, enjoying the warmth and comfort it brought. Many hours were spent with their fur babies on their laps, listening to their comforting purrs.
Melvin had many friends on Facebook and would proudly show Joan clips of Ronnie and his race car. They would go on long drives, always bringing a tote that held a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, a bottle of honey, and a cold Dr. Pepper. He always looked forward to the holidays with Patsy and Kenny Conner, knowing his favorite foods would be served.
Every night around 8 p.m., they would kick back and watch movies, sitting side by side. You never saw one of them without seeing them hand in hand, smiles on their faces.
He will forever be loved and missed. Family and friends have been wonderful, spending long hours on the phone comforting Joan. Thank you to everyone for their love and compassion.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Nellie Moran; and by Dorthy Good, Gladys Huffman, Garland Moran, Wayne Wood, Ronnie Huffman, and Gary Huffman.
Surviving family members include Joyce Grouse, Kay Volgler, Rick Wood, Butch Wood, Dandy Stewart, Mike Moran, Paul Moran, and stepson, Todd Glass (Lauren).
