Mary Jane McKinney, of Roanoke, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at the age of 65.

Mary was a nurturing soul who dedicated her life to caring for children, and the elderly. She exuded an unwavering kindness and love. Her legacy includes guiding her five cherished children spreading joy through her gardening, love for animals, infectious laughter, culinary delights, and deep Christian faith. Her departure leaves an irreplaceable void, yet her legacy of boundless kindness lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

Mary is preceded by her loving parents, William, and Jane McKinney; her younger brother, Roger McKinney; and younger sister, Susan Silver.

She is survived by her lifelong friend, Jeffrey Rigdon; her son, John Rigdon; her daughters, Leandra, Amanda, Ashley, and Kimberly Rigdon; as well as her grandchildren, Charlie Lee and Dean Zamorski. Mary is also survived by her brothers, William McKinney and Wally Hunt, and sisters, Joyce McKinney, Lana Likas, and Brenda McCrae.

A Celebration in honor of Mary's life will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church (2712 Brandon Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24015) beginning at 3 p.m. Please join us to celebrate the wonderful and caring life that Mary led and gather to honor her profound impact.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude's, American Cancer Society, Angels of Assisi, or any other charitable organization you choose to honor her.
