Obituary

Mary Virginia Millner Kurtz , 84, of Washington D.C., formerly of Roanoke, VA, passed away on August 28, 2023.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe Lewis and Louise V. Millner; her husband, Williams J. Kurtz; her sons, Jerome A. Millner and Marvin D. Beckner; her brothers, Joe Lewis, Thomas, Moses, and Nelson Millner; her two sisters-in-law, Maria Perkins and Etta Millner; one brother-in-law, James Calloway, Sr.; one granddaughter, Ebony D. Thompson; one nephew, Jemes Calloway Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, London, Dallas, and Tierra Session.

Sister Mary Virginia Kurtz attended Lucy Addison High School. Sister Kurtz retired as a Cook. She was a member of Image of GOD Church In Christ under her Sr. Pastor Gregory S. Williams. She was a Faithful Member of Garden of Prayer No. 7 before she got sick and moved to Washington D.C. Sister Kurtz gave her life to God and was saved many years ago at Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church in Washington D.C.

She would sometimes make up her own church songs. One of her favorites was "Hallelujah Anyhow, never let your troubles get you down, hold your head up high and say Hallelujah anyhow."

Those left to cherish her memory are: her brother, Raymond Perkins, Sr.; two sisters, Corene Calloway and Dorothy Millner; her sister-in-law, Marquina Campbell Millner; her two sons, Ricky Ted Millner and Thomas A. Millner; her five daughters, Denise Thompson, Antonette Millner, Sharon (Darlene) Millner, Dana Austin, and Alesia Williams; her daughter-in-law, Buana Millner; her four sons-in-law, Donell Thompson, John Greene, Gregory Williams, and Michael Austin; also surviving are her 22 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sister Mary Kurtz was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
