Obituary

Marion "Pete" F. Abbitt, 89, of Madison Heights, Rustburg, and Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2024. He died peacefully, after a long fight with cancer, at his home surrounded by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Blanche Abbitt, wife of 38 years Peggy Brooks Abbitt; brother, Bill Abbitt (Peggy) sisters: Peggy, Frances, Nancy, Virginia Burley (Boo), Phyllis Arthur (Jimmy), & Marie Wilkerson (George); brothers-in-law Jimmy Ferneyhough, & Charley Shirley.

He is survived by his two daughters, Vickie Costello (Dan) & Cheryl Morrison, grandsons Blake & Logan Morrison, all from Roanoke; sisters, Helen Ferneyhough of Monroe and Lilly Shirley of TN, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Pete proudly served in the US Navy serving on the destroyers USS Buckley and the USS De Haven. He was the retired owner of Abbitt's Body Shop. He was known to many as the toughest man they knew with the greatest sense of humor of all.

In his last months, he talked a lot about how much he loved his family and friends. He was so appreciative of everything everyone ever did for him.

The family extends their deepest appreciation to the caregivers working with Terri Carico & Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.

He will be sorely missed!

At this time, there will be no services. We thank Valley Funeral Home for their continued professionalism extended to us.
