Lori Ann Costa, 59, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on August 10, 2025, after a battle with cancer. Her life was full of love, laughter, challenges, and resilience.

Lori was a vibrant, funny, and caring woman who made an impression wherever she went. She had a magnetic personality—goofy, warm, and easy to talk to. She loved her family deeply and poured herself into creating joyful memories through dinners, game nights, and holiday traditions.

She was a single mother to four children—Nicole Harris, Breanna Costa, Rae Costa, and Hay Costa—and a grandmother to Keegan, Merric, Finley, Piper, and Callum. She also shared a lifelong friendship with her former husband, Brian Costa, and held close bonds with her parents, Carl and Joan Quimby, and her sister, Linda Shockley.

Lori's life wasn't always easy. She faced personal battles and struggled with vices, which shaped many of her relationships and experiences. But even in the midst of hardship, she fought to provide for her children and often opened her home to their friends, offering a sense of belonging and family.

Lori had a charm all her own, with a spirit that found joy in life's little signs and simple pleasures. She never passed up a chance to scoop up a stray penny or nickel. She saw meaning in patterns, especially when three sixes appeared, convinced they were a sign that good things were on the horizon. She was a firm believer in karma. And she was always knocking on wood to make sure she didn't jinx herself.

To know Lori was to know her favorite things. She had a love for Diet Coke. Her sweet tooth led her on a lifelong quest to find ice cream that matched the magic of Baskin-Robbins' Death by Chocolate. And when it was time to treat herself, nothing beat a tender filet mignon paired with scallops. Summer was Lori's season. She thrived in the sunshine, whether lounging by the pool or soaking up the salty breeze at the beach. The more sun, the better

She made holidays magical—especially Christmas, where no matter the financial hardship she was faced with, she was sure to make the season special. Halloween was a time for fun costumes, and Thanksgiving brought the family together for potlucks filled with laughter and love.

Lori lived a full, imperfect, and deeply human life. She was a woman of contradictions—strong yet vulnerable, joyful yet troubled—but always, always loving. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she created, the people she cared for, and the memories that will continue to bring smiles and tears to those who knew her.

Friends and family are invited to attend a casual, drop-in style gathering to celebrate the beautiful life and legacy of Lori Costa on Saturday, September 20, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Disciple Center of Vinton Baptist Church, 200 South Maple Street, Vinton, Virginia. While this is not a traditional funeral or a religious ceremony, it will be a heartfelt time to share stories, laughter, and love in her memory. Guests can expect a joyful atmosphere filled with memories, casual dress is encouraged, and some of Lori's favorite snacks will be served. This will also be a space to share photos and moments from Lori's life, and those attending are invited to bring pictures from childhood to recent years to help create a collage celebrating her journey. Together, let us gather not in sadness but in celebration of a life well-lived and deeply loved.
