Lorene F. Smith, "Reenie",  91, of Elkridge, WV and longtime resident of Botetourt County, VA passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 15, 2021. She went to greet the Lord once she made it past the many loved ones waiting to meet her in Heaven, including her husband, Glenn, her parents, and several siblings, other relatives and dear friends who went on before her. She was the loving and strong matriarch of a large family who survives her, including her 5 children; she helped raise Kaitlyn Fowler who is like a daughter to her, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and siblings, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Estola Farley, husband, Edwin Glenn Smith, and several of her brothers and sisters, and in-laws, Jim Toscano and Debbie Smith.

She is survived by her children and their families: daughter , Karen Toscano (Jim), her son, Jim and wife, Sandy, and daughter, Dawn Lorene and her son, Nicholas; David Smith , his children Stevie and Michelle and her sons, Austin and Jayden; daughter , Diana Hatter , her sons and their families: Bob and Shelley, with children, Cameron (Melissa) and his son, Cainin, Grayson, and Wyatt; Matt and Pam Hatter, his daughter, Kaitlyn Diane Fowler, husband, Josh and their children, Kaydence and Ariel; Daniel and his daughter, Jessica Danielle Looney, her husband, Josh, and their son, Jase-Eli; Justin and Erin Hatter, with sons Cody, Christian, and Tayler; and Travis Hatter and Alesha Laprade; John Smith and his children, John Jr. and Melissa with her sons, Henry Lee and Hayden Luke Stump; and Jerry Smith; sisters, Shelby and Allen-Faye;  special grandaughter, Kimberly Mangels, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended-family, in-laws and friends.

Lorene worked at Halmode Apparel as a Side-seamstress; she was a dietician and kitchen supervisor for many years until she retired at Friendship Manor; and as a retirement job, she was a door-greeter for several years at her local Walmart. She was incredibly proud of her work in service to people with special needs; and helped 2 learn to live independently - patiently teaching life-skills and how to take care of themselves for independent living. She also had many friends who loved her like family among Vietnamese Immigrants in Roanoke, Virginia. She was gifted with skills of encouragement and interpretation, so she knew and lovingly attended those needs, even when she did not speak the language. It was in her nature to take care of people and she would stand up for others in need of help, especially her family. Among her many skills were the caretaking of people of all ages-from elderly to infants; cooking and baking (especially baking homemade breads and cakes, "eyeballing" the recipes, and being asked to mail them off to folks before that was a thing); gardening and canning; and operating a rural family homestead. She did too many wonderful things in support of her family over the years to count. She was one of the greatest women to walk the earth, confident but not sinful, nor full of pride. All her kin knew her strength and the world would be jealous of the love she offered to her family and friends. She had a beautiful smile and a joyful laugh, and those who loved her often tried to make her giggle for selfish reasons because it was such a happy sound. She was always the hardest worker, yet knew how to have fun and lived a full life. Our mother was an incredibly special lady who was always there for us and many others. Our memories of her will  be cherished forever in our hearts. She will be missed by all those she loved, and by all those who loved her.

A Private Family Visitation will be held at Valley Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon and she will be laid to rest with Graveside Services at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, WV on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 12:00 noon .  Her grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
