Lois Esther Hanmer (Wegner) was born July 21,1937, in Robinson Creek, Kentucky, the sixth of William and Anna Wegner's thirteen children. Lois graduated from John's Creek High School in 1955 and continued her studies at Appalachian Bible Institute (now Appalachian Bible College, ABC). As a child, Lois trusted Christ as her Savior, and she served Him in various locations including ABC and Haiti.

Upon returning to the United States, she married widower and long-time friend from Appalachian Bible College, William Hanmer, on November 27, 1980. With this union, Lois welcomed two step-daughters, Tamara and Pamela, along with their growing families. Together Lois and Bill served over the years at ABC, for a time in Puerto Rico, and with Gospel Furthering Fellowship both in the home office in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and also abroad at a Bible Institute in Kenya. They celebrated almost 32 years of marriage before Bill's passing in 2012. Soon thereafter Lois moved to Roanoke, Virginia, to be closer to siblings and extended family.

In addition to staying busy with church gatherings, Lois enjoyed cross-word puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and keeping in touch with her large extended family and also dear friends. She did a wonderful job as the Wegner Family CIO (Chief Information Officer)!

Lois was preceded in death by siblings Chester, Ralph, Harold, Lillian, Louise, Sarah, and Marvin. She is survived by her two stepdaughters, Tamara Hendrix of Georgia and Pamela (Joe) Ruberg of Indiana along with their families including 7 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by siblings Leah (Lonnie) Willis, Sam (Ruth Anne) Wegner, Paul (Doris) Wegner, Raymond (Joyce) Wegner, and Wilmar (Dolores) Wegner, sisters-in-law Karen Wegner and Barbara Wegner and brother-in-law Jim Dotson, along with many nieces and nephews, her church family and friends.

Lois went to be with her Heavenly Father on the morning of Thursday, April 16, 2026. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life on Tuesday, April 28, at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, Virginia.
