LINIEL "LINNIE" GODFREY GREGORY, Jr., passed on May 2, 2022. Linnie was born in Shenandoah, VA on August 1, 1937, to Liniel G. Gregory, Sr., and Beverly Snyder Gregory.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Caulfield Madine Gregory; children, Lee Anne Wade (Gary), Lynne Ellen King (Monte), Liniel "Trey" G. Gregory III (Ardis), Robert Neal Gregory (Michelle Davis), Vivien Gean McMahan (Tim); step-daughter, Helen Schaumann Madine Wilsie (Bruce); and 14 grand and 9 great-grandchildren.

Raised in Roanoke, he attended Jefferson Sr. High School, National Business College, and the University of Virginia Extension in Roanoke. In 1975, he was given permission to represent a motor carrier in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Richmond, VA. Linnie was a co-founder of the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy in Salem, VA, and was appointed a Police Agent in 1983 and served through 2015. He was in the commercial motor carrier business for over 60 years, retiring from Fleetmaster Express in 2015. He was twice awarded Director of Safety in Virginia by the Virginia Trucking Association.

In retirement, he formed his own business, Translaw LLC, where he practiced transportation law as a consultant in compliance and safety in state and regulatory agencies and Circuit Courts in numerous locations. Linnie was a Staff Sergeant, in the Virginia Defense Force. For a number of years, he was an actor in the Attic Theater as well. He and Helen moved from their forty-acre farm in Fincastle to The Glebe in Daleville in 2018.

A funeral service to honor Liniel's life will be announced at a later date to be held at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Daleville, followed by a reception and video at The Glebe.
