Lewis Thomas
Patsel
Jun 13, 1952 — Mar 13, 2026
Lewis Thomas Patsel, affectionately known as Tommy, passed away on March 13, 2025. He was born on June 13, 1952.
Tommy loved his family with all his heart, selflessly putting his children first and always showing up for those he loved. The joy each grandchild brought into his life was immeasurable, and his love for them overflowed. He enjoyed welding, fishing, cooking, and fast cars. The family would also like to share a heartfelt message to others: do not do drugs, and if you are using, get clean. Your family and God love you. Proverbs 14:26 reminds us, "Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge."
Those preceding him in death are his grandparents, Warren M. and Beatrice Gordon-Richards; his parents, Lewis T. Patsel Sr. and Clara C. Richards-Otey; his siblings, Charlie A. Otey and Tara K. Otey-Hill; his aunt, Christine Richards-Patsel; his uncle, John B. Richards; his daughter, Elizabeth Yvonne Patsel (February 2, 1984 – December 29, 2024); and his best friend, Buddy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Joya Michelle Patsel; his grandchildren, William P. Schlueter, Bethany M. Schlueter, Elijah W. Roosma, and Elissa B. Roosma; and his uncle, Carsone R. Patsel, Sr.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
The family extends a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehab (Memory Care) and Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful and compassionate care of Tommy during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Meals on Wheels program through the local office, 4932 Frontage Rd NW, Roanoke, VA 24019.
Tommy will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his giving heart, and the lasting impact he made on those around him.
