Obituary

Kenneth Michael "Mike" Brookman, 62, of Paint Bank, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

Born January 15, 1964, in Olney, Maryland, Mike was the beloved son of the late Charles Ray Brookman and Maude Marie Wolfe Brookman. For 45 wonderful years, he was married to the love of his life, Wanda Darlene Brookman. Together, they built a family and a home filled with warmth, laughter, and hospitality.

Mike cherished life's simple pleasures and loved sharing them with others. An avid cook, he was happiest preparing meals, feeding family and friends, and ensuring no visitor ever left his home hungry. His passion for food extended to finding a good bargain. He was a legendary grocery shopper who made a point of visiting every store so he never missed a deal.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and canning his harvest. At home, Mike could often be found listening to his favorite music, especially Creedence Clearwater Revival, relaxing with a good television show, or admiring classic Chevy trucks and motor racing.

Above all, Mike lived for his family. He treasured holiday gatherings, telling stories to his children, and hosting lively family game nights, where Yahtzee and Flip 7 were always favorite choices.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda Darlene Brookman; his children, Renee Michelle Brookman, Sarah Lynn Shires (TC), Nicole Dawn Brookman, and Kenneth Michael Thomas "Boo" Brookman; and his nine cherished grandchildren, Isaiah Will, Montana Stein, Kolby Shires, Desiree Will, Kaleigh Darnell, Raelynn Harless, Harper Compton, Nicholas Compton, and Waylon Brookman.

He is also survived by his brothers, Ray Brookman (Ruth), Charles Brookman (Donna), and Glynn Brookman (Connie); his sisters, Charlene Purkey and Maryann Taylor; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brothers, William Brookman and Robert Brookman, and his sister, Christy Webb.
