John Edward James, known to friends as Johnny, was born on March 7, 1953, in Roanoke, Virginia, and passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.

He graduated from Roanoke Public Schools in 1971 and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, earning an honorable discharge as an E-4 with marksman and rifle expert badges in 1977. Johnny had a deep love for his family and was known for his kindness, humor, and unwavering generosity. He'd readily give you the shirt off his back.

He is preceded in death by his dear mother, Frances Bowie.

Johnny is survived by his children, Samuel James (Bridgette), and Ashley Johnson, along with his cherished grandchildren, Christopher James, Michael James, and Jayden James. He is also survived by his brother, Otis Wheat (Karen), and his nephew, Vernon Dudley (Heather).

Johnny's memory will forever be treasured by those whose lives he touched.
