Jo Ann Beamer Merchant, affectionately known as JoJo by her grandchildren, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, in Roanoke, VA. Born to the late James and Ceilia Beamer on July 10, 1942, Jo Ann was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and wife.

Jo Ann was the owner and operator of Jo Ann's School of Dance in Fincastle, VA. She also found joy in nature and cherished her trips to the beach. Jo Ann was a caring soul, always prepared to take care of others in their time of need.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary D. Merchant; father, James E. Beamer, Sr.; mother, Ceilia Cartwright Beamer; father-in-law, Walter Merchant; and mother-in-law, Lois Francis Merchant.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marion "Pete" Abbitt; daughter, Sheryl G. Merchant; son, Gary Jason Merchant (Brandy); brother, James E. Beamer, Jr.; grandson, London J. Merchant; and granddaughter, Lyla A. Merchant.

A celebration of Jo Ann's life will be held at a later date, honoring the legacy of a remarkable woman who touched the hearts of many through dance and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Mt. Moriah Cemetery (4125 Blacksburg Rd, Troutville, VA 24175).
