Jeffery Lynn
Conner
May 17, 1954 — Oct 10, 2021
Jeffery Lynn Conner, Born May 17, 1954, and passed on Sunday, October 10, 2021, after battling cancer for six years. Jeff was preceded in death by his Father David W. Conner and his Mother Mary J. Conner. Jeff graduated from Roanoke College with a BBA degree, and he worked for Verizon for 30 years. He is survived by his siblings: Brother Mark B. Conner (married to Michelle Conner) from Charlottesville VA and Sister Cynthia Wells from Gainesville FL. He is also survived by three nephews, Zach Conner, Sam Conner, and Jack Wells, and one niece, Allison Krantz. And he is survived by many friends who knew and loved him.
Jeff trusted Jesus as his Savior and Lord at a fairly early age in his preteen years. He often spoke of Bill Cornett, his Sunday School teacher at Preston Oaks Baptist Church, and how Bill wanted all the boys in his class to give their hearts to Jesus. Jeff grew up in that church and served in various capacities there. Jeff came to Green Ridge Baptist after his father passed away. Jeff was looking for a pastor and a church that preached the inerrant and inspired Word of God! After being there for a brief time Jeff began to bring his mother to church as well until her decline and death.
Jeff dearly loved his Father and Mother. He cared for his mother at home for years until that became impossible. He would speak of family history often. He revered the way his parents lived before him and taught him. He told the story often of how he missed the cut for the baseball team, and he went home as a child crying. It was then that his father helped him take up golf and taught Jeff the swing technique that he used throughout his life.
Jeff had many sayings that were unique to him. They are too many to list here. But all of those who knew him, were familiar with some of them. Jeff was a source of encouragement to Pastor Michael Palmer. His consistent phone calls and inquiry as to how the gospel work was going were a blessing. Jeff participated in one North American mission trip to Atlanta Georgia with Pastor Michael and a larger team. For a time, he helped teach Sunday School in the children's division. In 2018 Jeff joined North Roanoke Baptist Church. He loved Pastor Daniel and the exposition of the Word on Sundays.
Jeff had an excellent reputation with all the various employers he had over his lifetime. Every one of them spoke highly of Jeff and the manner and bearing with which he carried out his duties on the job.
Jeff probably owned and worked on more than fifty automobiles during his lifetime! He loved "fixer-uppers" and could work on anything. He credited that to his Father.
Jeff was a "scratch" golfer while at William Fleming High School and for many years after that. Coach Bob Lenoir often said that Jeff was one of the best golfers he ever coached on the Fleming golf team. Jeff helped the church captain's choice team win a couple of Roanoke Valley Associational golf tournaments! He was a lot of fun on the golf course.
