Jean Kathryn
Leonard Bird
Sep 6, 1932 — Oct 25, 2023
Roanoke
Jean Kathryn Leonard Bird was born to the late Charlie and Lois Leonard on September 6, 1932, in Troutville, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2023, in Roanoke, Virginia.
Jean was a remarkable woman who found joy in many simple pleasures; she loved to read, travel, sew, and sing. Her strong faith was deeply rooted as a lifelong member of Colonial Baptist Church.
Throughout her life, Jean dedicated her career to public service, working with the Social Security Administration, Commercial Credit, and McKesson and Robbins Drug. She was known for her warm heart and generosity.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lois Leonard; her beloved husband of 68 years, Ray R. Bird; her infant son, Gary Wayne Bird; and her dear grandson, Travis Ray Bird. They now rest in eternal peace together.
Jean's memory lives on through her loving family. She is survived by her sons, Rick Bird and wife Margie, Michael Bird and wife Jill, and her daughter, Kathy Tucker, and husband Edwin. Her cherished grandchildren include Aimee Bird, Ashley Charlton, Corey Austin, Cristen Austin, Holli White, Lindsey Moore, Byron Tucker, Locke Tucker, and Joy Tucker. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Leonard and wife Carol, and sister-in-law, Patsy Bird Atkins.
A visitation to celebrate Jean's life will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. on October 29, 2023, at Colonial Baptist Church, located at 221 Hillcrest Rd. in Blue Ridge, Virginia. The interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Blue Ridge, Virginia, with Joel Wegner, Marvin Wegner, John Dooley, and Rick Ragan officiating.
In loving memory of Jean's strong faith and trusting spirit, please consider her favorite scripture, Proverbs 3: 5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
