Jason Emerson Wood, 45, of Fincastle, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 24, 2026. He was born on July 17, 1980, to Pamela Susan Lynch and Larry Roope.

Jason was preceded in death by his grandmother, Evelyn Ransome Wood; aunt, Cheryl R. Arnold; stepbrother, Michael E. Kiser; and cousin, Chasity D. Scaggs.

Jason grew up in Botetourt County under the loving care of his maternal grandparents, Evelyn Ransome Wood and Matthew Emerson Wood. He was a 1999 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, where he played saxophone in the marching band during his freshman and sophomore years. He was also an active member of the FFA from grades 10–12 and volunteered with Fincastle Rescue. Jason loved spending time with his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything related to the outdoors. Even when struggling himself, he was known for giving his last dollar or the shirt off his back to help someone in need. His sense of humor was one of his greatest gifts—he loved to be silly, was often the clown in the room, and truly enjoyed life. A man of faith, Jason was working to start a Botetourt County chapter of Celebrate Recovery. He was scheduled to begin classes to become a counselor for the Department of Justice.

He is survived by his children: daughter Leeanne Jeanne Harney-Wood (Kenny); sons Austin Emerson Wood and Samuel Matthew Wood; stepson Alex Robertson; and fiancée Bobbie J Robertson. He is also survived by his mother, Pamela Susan Kiser (Larry) of Louisburg, NC; grandfather Matthew Emerson Wood of Troutville, VA; sisters Jessica LeeAnn Wood of Troutville, VA; Misty D. Kiser (Zack) of Floyd, VA; and Shonna E. Kiser of Louisburg, NC. He leaves behind nieces and nephews, NiKayla D. Reedy, Preston M. Wood, Destiny S. Kiser, and Wyatt E. Kiser; aunts Jennifer L. Cupp (Robert) of Fincastle, VA, and Paula L. Brooks (Robert) of Spring Hope, NC; numerous cousins, including two he was especially close to, Derek E. Cupp (Devin) and Dale S. Cupp (Anastasia); and many friends he considered family.

A service will be held on Friday, February 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Troutville. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. A private burial will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Botetourt Food Pantry in Fincastle or to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Food Ministry.
