James Edward Walthall, 75, of Roanoke VA, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Athie Walthall and Gracie Isabelle Walthall, and his wife, Patricia Wass Walthall.

James was born on October 1, 1946, in Beckley, WV. He was a Veteran and served in the US Navy. James was a humble man whose happy place was the bank of any fishing hole or tending to his garden. He was very musically inclined and played bass guitar in bands in his younger years. He was a gifted craftsman who could turn a block of wood into a piece of art. He loved creating and building with his hands and wasn't afraid of a hard day's work. James had an unforgettable personality and has left a lasting mark on this earth. He will be remembered and missed by many.

James is survived by his daughter, Tamera Woodward (Joshua) of Wake Forest, NC; his granddaughter, Larna Marie Gieseking (Paul) of Silverhill, AL; his grandson, Joshua Samuel Woodward of Wake Forest, NC; his great-granddaughter, Rose Marie Gieseking of Silverhill, AL; his brother, Robert Stanley Walthall of White Sulphur Springs, WV; his niece, Jessica Walthall; his nephews, Daniel Walthall and Josh Walthall; his aunts, Margaret Carwile and Mary Smith; and many cousins and special friends.

Visitation will be from 1 - 3 pm on Sunday, July 31st, at Valley Funeral Home in Roanoke, VA. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Any flowers for condolences can be brought or sent to Valley Funeral Home at 1609 Peters Creek Rd. NW in Roanoke, VA.
