James Luther Sturgill, Jr., affectionately known as "Jimmy," passed away on August 17, 2026, in Roanoke, Virginia. He was born on November 27, 1948, in Roanoke, Virginia.

Jimmy was a proud Marine. He was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt. He retired from the VA Hospital after more than 40 years of dedicated service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Sturgill; his parents, James and Ruth Sturgill; his brother, Gary Sturgill; his son, James L. Sturgill III; and his sister, Janet Justice.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Lorrie Wilkins and Jimmy Sturgill (Liz); his grandchildren, Emily Wilkins (Amanda), Michael Sturgill (Kelsey), Bryce Wilkins, Noah Wilkins, Megan Sturgill, Peyton Wilkins, Garrett Sturgill, Jimmy Sturgill IV, and Greg Simmons; his great-grandchildren, Ava Sturgill and Jaxon Sturgill; his sisters, Linda Aylor (Barry) and Elaine Moore; his brothers, Jeff Sturgill and Doug Sturgill; his daughter-in-law, Amy Sturgill; and his sisters-in-law, Paulette Arnold and Tammy Via (Darren).

A military graveside service will be held at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park on Wednesday, September 2, beginning at 1 p.m.
