James Daniel Jones , affectionately known as " Dan ," passed away peacefully on May 30, 2023, at South Roanoke Nursing Home in Roanoke, Virginia. He was born on February 18, 1950, in Cary, North Carolina to the late Charles Jones, Sr. and Mamie Harris Jones.

In addition to his mother and father, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen Wade Jones; one brother, Charles Jones, Jr. and his wife, Bobbie Jones; one nephew, Keith Martin, and one nephew-in-law, Rusty Perkins.

James was employed with the City of Salem Parks and Recreation where he served as Assistant Youth Supervisor of Sports for many years, until his retirement. He was also an assistant coach at Andrew Lewis Middle School and an assistant football coach for Salem High School. James had a special love for sports, especially football. He looked forward to every football season. He also enjoyed camping, spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jennifer Jones-Vest (Travis); two grandsons, Carter and Grayson; sister-in-law, Shirley Martin Morefield; brother-in-law, Kenneth Martin; three nieces, Melanie Martin Perkins, Teah Bayless (Charles), and Hannah Jones; special in-laws, Mike and Norma Bamber; several great nieces, great nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
