James Joseph
"Joe" Clark
Aug 12, 1942 — Jul 25, 2024
James Joseph "Joe" Clark, 81, of New Martinsville, WV died Thursday, July 25, 2024, in Roanoke, VA. Joe was born on August 12, 1942, in Weston, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph C. and Frances McCudden Clark, and his two brothers, Robert and Michael.
Joe was a graduate of Morgantown High School in Morgantown, WV. Upon graduation, he returned to his homeplace, Weston, to begin installing telephone cables. He laid the original phone lines across much of this and other rural areas in West Virginia. Joe was driving home from work one day when he spotted the woman who would become the love of his life, Carol Gonzales Clark. Joe and Carol were married on June 19, 1965, in Weston, WV. They relocated to New Martinsville, WV, where Joe worked for Ormet Aluminum Corporation for 46 years.
Joe was a man of few words but will always be remembered for his knack for prolific phrases that will be passed down for generations. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as woodworking, listening to music, playing cards, watching the Andy Griffith show, relaxing on the porch watching the birds, and drinking his coffee. His greatest enjoyment, though, came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Joe is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ed and Holly Clark of Pearisburg, VA; his daughter Laurie Clark Fuchs of Roanoke, VA; his seven grandchildren – Joseph, Noah, Caroline, Katie, Peyton, Sarah, and Andrew; several nieces and nephews.
Joe's life will be celebrated with a Funeral Liturgy at 1 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Boyle Funeral Home, 144 Hackers Creek Road, Jane Lew, WV. Family and friends will be received from 11 am until the time of the service. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery, 1932 County Road 20, Weston, WV.
Memorial contributions may be made in Joe's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
