James Edward
Griffin
Apr 1, 1943 — Jun 17, 2025
Roanoke
James E. Griffin, age 82, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on June 17, 2025, at his residence. James was born on April 1, 1943, in Washington, DC, to the late James Griffin and Edna M. Gordan Griffin.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Joyce A. Mack Griffin, with whom he spent forty-eight wonderful years; one brother, Lewis Griffin; and two sisters, Patricia Griffin Atterbury and June Griffin Williams.
James served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after two years of service. James was a natural-born driver who enjoyed driving; he stayed on the open road. He worked for many years in the transportation industry, driving city buses in the busy streets of New York, dump trucks throughout DC, and all over the United States, driving tractor-trailer trucks and charter buses. Due to his decline in health in the last couple of years, he was unable to do what he loved so much. He was an avid bible reader and enjoyed spreading the gospel.
Those left to cherish precious memories are his loving and devoted daughter, Jacnique Nazario-Wright, and her husband, Timothy Wright; son, Jarrelle I. Griffin; three sisters, Margaret Posser Williams and her husband, Eugene Williams, Charlene G. Rhodes and Cynthia Murphy; special friend, Calven Wood and life long friend, Lillian "Lala" Pugh and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on September 20, 2025, at the Kingdom Hall in Salem, Virginia. The time will be announced once finalized.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the American Heart Association.
