James Michael Anderson, (Jim), aged 66, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2023, at the Salem VA Medical Center. James was born on December 6, 1956, in Indiana, the middle child of 3 born to Charles E. Anderson, a botany professor, and Patricia Darst Wiltshire, a writer and teacher.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Charles Anderson; sister, Gretchen Anderson; his bonus, Dad Dennis Wiltshire; and the family's dog, a black lab named Lickerish.

Jim attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as an undergraduate student majoring in business and later attended the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, where he received his Masters's degree in Business Administration.

Jim loved nothing more in life than his family. Above all, he always considered his most important job to be that of Dad. He spent as much time as possible with his children and made a point of supporting them in any and all activities they chose to participate in. He especially loved when this was either at the stadium or in their living room cheering on their favorite family sports teams including the Washington Capitals and the Washington Nationals among others. Jim was also a lifelong fan of the NC State Wolfpack, and the UNC Tarheels, and took great pleasure in cheering on any team that served as the opponent to Duke University.

Jim was an enthusiastic fitness buff, reveling in his early morning trips to the gym as well as those later in the day which when they were in town often included his sons. He was a great lover of animals. He adored his furrier children, especially his cat whom he affectionately referred to as Grey Jammies, who served as his constant companion during his illness.

In addition to his mother, Patricia, and his brother Steve, referred to by his children affectionately as "Uncle Noodle", those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Erin W. Anderson, daughter Kelly Anderson, sons T.J. and Reece Anderson, stepmother Bonnie Anderson, his aforementioned furrier children, as well his stepsisters and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
