Hugh Elberyn Roberts , affectionately known as Yogi , peacefully passed away on April 7, 2025, in Roanoke, Virginia. He was born on April 25, 1943, to the late Herman E. Roberts and Ruth Blackwell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea Harris; brother, Jonathan Roberts; sisters, Zsa Zsa Roberts and Debbie Davis; and brother-in-law, Beverly Davis.
Yogi was a retired car salesman from Hart Motors in Salem, Virginia. He was a Green Ridge Baptist Church member and often volunteered his time to the Roanoke Rescue Mission. He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music and was formerly a member of the Penguin Club in Salem, Virginia. His grandfather was the founder of the Lakeside Amusement Park in Salem, Virginia; Yogi continued the family legacy after his passing. Yogi was also an avid golfer and a proud supporter of the city of Salem and any Salem sports activities.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Judith Roberts; sons, Hugh Roberts and Anthony Emerick; sister, Melissa Wimmer and her husband Michael; sister, Jeanette and her husband, Wayne; sister in law, Julie Roberts; granddaughters, Charlotte Harris and Caroline Harris; grandson, Caleb Roberts; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family of the late Hugh "Yogi" Roberts wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice.
