Helen "Hayward" Mitchell, 85, of Salem Virginia passed away at her home on Monday, May 6, 2024.

She was the daughter of the late George Lawson Jr. and Helen Lawson. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Lawson III, and her grandson, Dillon Cregar.

She is survived by her son, Randolph (Bill) von Till, and wife Jen; daughter, Missy Cregar, and husband Jeff; and her grandson, Jacob Cregar.

Hayward graduated from JMU. She worked in the mental health field for many years, putting her love of helping people to good use, and her belief that "kindness changes everything" into practice. She also practiced and taught yoga and tai chi. 0Hayward loved dogs, especially her big dog "Boo", who was a Newfoundland and St. Bernard mix.

In accordance with Hayward's wishes, services will be private.
