Harold Edward Speer, a resident of Salem, Virginia, and formerly of Saltville/Chilhowie, Virginia, peacefully departed from this world on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the age of 85. Born in Michigan, Harold graduated from Chilhowie High School in 1957 and went on to serve his country in the United States Army, earning an honorable discharge in 1963.

Harold is fondly remembered for his unwavering dedication and devotion to his favorite pastime - serving as a coach for little league baseball teams in the Glenvar/Salem area. His impact on the lives of young athletes resonates as a testament to his passion for mentoring and shaping character.

Beyond the baseball diamond, Harold found solace in the quiet joy of fishing and the camaraderie of the golf course. A loyal and dedicated employee, he retired from Kroger after 40+ faithful years of service.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Mary Speer, his brother, David Speer, and his daughter, Angela Speer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Joyce Pennington Speer; sister, Helen Key (Ralph) of Roanoke; his only son, Jody Speer (Monica) of Salem; and aunt, Patty Kozak of Pennsylvania.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal viewing or service. However, a private graveside service will be held in Chilhowie, Virginia, allowing family and close friends to bid a final farewell to a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. May the memory of Harold's warmth, guidance, and love live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
