George Marshall Etzler, age 78, of Troutville, VA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

George was born on October 23, 1943, in Roanoke, VA to John L. Etzler, III and Signe Selander Etzler. Following high school, George spent some time studying at UVA before returning to farm his family farm in Botetourt County. George was President of John L. Etzler, Inc. and served on many boards over the years including his most recent position as Chairman of the Board for the Roanoke Hollins Stockyard. George was a Deacon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he also served as Trustee. George, along with his brother, John, IV, and nephew, Jay, managed a successful beef cattle operation and continued the country ham and bacon business following the death of their father, John, III. After losing his brother, John, in a tragic farming accident, George continued the farm operations with his nephew, Jay.

George was predeceased by his wife, Betty A. Etzler, father, John L. Etzler, III, mother, Signe S. Etzler, brother, John L. Etzler, IV, sister, Elizabeth Todd, brothers-in-law, Stanley Kamm, Michael Basing and Robert Todd, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Albert and Carolyn Schriver, and grand-niece, Kristen Todd. George is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Evans, grandson, Lincoln Evans, Jr. and wife, Kestrel Kerl, granddaughter, Meredith Evans, great-granddaughter, Luna Rise Kerl-Evans, sisters Martha Kamm and Sue Paul, sister-in-law, Margaret Crawford, brother-in-law, Wayne Buchanan, sister-in-law, Virginia Basing, girlfriend, Jeannette Morris, nephews, Jay Etzler and his wife, Carole, David Albert and wife, Susan, Will Bell and wife, Jessica, Andrew Kamm and wife, Beth, nieces Sheryl Crawford and husband, Dale, Signe Todd, Chris Todd and husband Tim, Emily Plemmons and husband, Jackie, Leslie Francisco and husband Marvin, grand-nephews, John Etzler, VI, Andrew Francisco, Nick Albert, Michael Albert, Jeremiah Albert, and grand-nieces, Erika Todd, Kaylee Plemmons, Kelly Albert, Maggie Bell, Olivia Bell and many, many dear cousins and extended family members (Cory Guilliams, Matt Hatter, Bob Hatter, Iain Lewis, Vic Lewis, Gerald Lewis, Hal Bailey, Edd Stevens, Jeff Henderson, and many others).

A Celebration of George's life will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 11:00 am. Visitation will take place from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Pleasant Hill prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at Mount Union Cemetery following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 4930 Country Club Road, Troutville, VA 24175. Funeral arrangements are being made through Valley Funeral Service in Roanoke, VA.
