Fred Lee Rector, born to parents Arthur and Annie Rector December 21, 1937 in Grayson County, Virginia passed away on January 31, 2021 at the age of 83. Fred served in the US Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. On Christmas Eve, 1962 he married Hope Wohlford. He was baptized and became a member of the Church of Christ in Salem in 1963 and in April 1996 he joined the Mason's Cove Church of the Brethren and was Deacon there. In 1968 he coordinated efforts with others to establish the Fire Department in Mason's Cove. He held several offices and ranks in the department and was a faithful life-long member until his retirement as Assistant Chief after almost 40 years. In 1995 he retired from work as the senior mechanic for Virginia Department of Transportation Salem District.

He is survived by the family including his wife of 58 years, Hope Wohlford Rector; son, Michael Lee Rector; granddaughter, Amanda Niday and husband, Josh; grandson, Thomas Rector and his mother, Melinda Rector; great-grandson, Ben Niday; brothers, Dean and Gene Rector; sister, Lorene Rector; and niece, Gloria Parker and husband, Bruce.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2021 from 2:00 -5:00 p.m. with Funeral Service on Monday, February 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Valley Funeral Home with interment at Berea Cemetery in Wytheville, VA at 2:30 p.m. with military honors.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to your local Volunteer Fire and Rescue organizations in his name, because of his true love of the service they provide.
