Obituary

Frances L. Ward, lovingly known as Fran, passed away on November 1, 2024, in Roanoke, Virginia, at the age of 87. Born on January 29, 1937, in Richlands, Virginia, Fran moved to Roanoke in 1965, where she dedicated her career to helping others as part of the Roanoke Ear, Nose & Throat Clinic and later at the dental practice of Dr. Joseph St. Clair.

Fran resided in the Bonsack area with her beloved husband, Russell D. Ward, who preceded her in death in 2017. During their time in Bonsack, they attended Bonsack Baptist Church, and after relocating to Southwest Roanoke County, they found a welcoming church family at Poages Mill Church of the Brethren.

Fran was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Connie Hash (Tim), her brother George R. Lowe (Carolyn), and her two granddaughters, Jessica Beckner Manor (Ryan) and Casey Beckner Howard. Her six great-grandchildren, Hayden, Emily, and J.J. Manor, as well as Isaac, Caleb, and Evan Howard, were a great joy to her. Two dear friends, Sue Crumpacker and David Beckner, also held special places in her heart. Fran was also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In celebration of Fran's life, a lunch featuring her favorite foods will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at noon at Poages Mill Church of the Brethren, located at 6550 Bent Mountain Road, Roanoke County.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Fran's memory to Poages Mill Church of the Brethren or Good Samaritan Hospice.
