Evelyn Irene Street, 88, of Elliston, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at home in hospice.

Evelyn was born on October 4, 1936, in Wooster, OH, to Arthur and Gladys Sloan. She married Bernard W. Street. He predeceases her.

Evelyn in the beginning of her marriage was a faithful wife following her husband who was in the military and transferred around the United States. She was awarded by the Department of the Army a "Certificate of Appreciation" for her own unselfish, faithful, and devoted service to make possible for her husband's contribution to the nation.

Later in life she sought employment and worked as a housekeeper for 17 years at Lewis-Gale Clinic in Salem, VA. There she excelled in her duties. She worked hard and helped set an example throughout the department. Throughout her career, she was awarded many accolades. One of her accomplishments was being named the "1994 Housekeeping Employee of the Year" by the Chapter of the National Executive Housekeepers Association. Selection is based on dependability, leadership, devotion, ability, and dedication.

She is survived by her son, Willam Ward Street (Luci), of Salem, VA; her grandchildren, Jessica Blevins (John), of Roanoke, VA; and her great-grandchildren, Clay and Hunter. She is also survived by her daughter, JoAnne Thomas of Elliston, VA; her grandchildren, Tammy, Leon (Jessica), and Christopher (Nikkie); her great-grandchildren, Greg, Jasmine, Makayla, Destainee, Channing, Autumn, Nevaeh, and Brailyn; and her sister, Eleanor Johnson, of Wooster, OH.

A funeral service will be held at Valley Funeral Service Chapel on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 12 p.m. with a visitation to be held one hour prior. Interment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
