On Saturday, June 24th, 2023, at 5:05 p.m., Jesus opened the gates of Heaven and descended to usher Earnest Ray "Chiefy" Beckner into eternal rest as his 83-year journey on Earth came to a close. As he crossed the threshold into Heaven, he was joyously reunited with his beloved wife, Charlotte G. Fuller Beckner, and cherished son, Richard L. Beckner, along with numerous other family members. Earnest peacefully passed away at his residence in Vinton, VA, with his loving daughter by his side. He was the last surviving child of Joseph C. Beckner and Pansy E. Mathena Beckner, born in Rock, West Virginia on February 14, 1940.

Earnest found great pleasure in hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed listening to his grandson, William, as he shared information he had unearthed researching their familial history. Earnest's daughter recognized the importance of preserving vital records and discovered intriguing details. For instance, while his birth certificate spelled his first name as Ernest, Social Security records revealed that his first name was spelled Earnest. Additionally, Earnest delighted in attending Simmons Auctions in Moneta, VA, where he would enthusiastically drive a truck for fun, assisting the Auctioneer during their Fall and Spring Farming Auctions. And indulging in the intellectual challenges of Jeopardy ! And classic Western films. He held a long-standing membership with Southside Baptist Church in Goodview, VA. In the past, he excelled as a chef in Baltimore, MD, and later managed apartments in FL. Subsequently, he embarked on a successful venture as the proprietor of a Paving & Seal Coating business, operating across several states including CT, MA, MD, and VA. In the latter part of his life, he ventured into the fields of landscaping and constructing Retaining Walls.

Earnest's earthly legacy endures through his three adoring sons and devoted daughter: Earine E. Beckner, Johnny E. Beckner, Elmer W. Beckner, and Scarlett L. "Pebbles" Beckner Jones, all residing in VA. His best friend and son-in-law, William S. "Billy" Jones IV of VA, also holds a special place in his heart. Furthermore, he leaves behind five grandchildren: William S. "Billy" Jones V of VA, Brandon R. Beckner of VA, Ariel J. Beckner Truner of FL, Jessica M. Beckner Burnell Smith of FL, and Kara L. Beckner Cruz of CT. Additionally, he will be fondly remembered by his seven great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, his daughter will honor his memory by foregoing a formal service, and Earnest's remains will be cremated. Throughout his valiant two-year battle against stage 4 prostate cancer, he exhibited unwavering strength. In his memory, we implore you to openly discuss any health concerns with your family members or healthcare provider, eliminating any hesitation or embarrassment, as timely action can make a vital difference.
