Douglas Lee Chewning, affectionately known as Doug by those who knew him, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023. Doug was born to the late Frank Lee and Gracie Mildred Simmons Chewning on September 1, 1946.

Doug was a huge Virginia Tech fan and always loved to watch them play. He loved the restaurant business, owning his own and serving great food for his customers for years. He also loved being around his family and friends.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and his sister.

Doug leaves behind his love of 23 years, Sandra Gray; his bonus daughter, Shanea Tanner; two bonus grandsons, Andrew Holom (Paige) and Zachary Bowman (Hannah); Special Lifelong Friend, Mike Lester; and bonus family members, Pat Fink, Santana, Steven, Autumn, and Tamara. Also, a special thank you to his caregiver, Carla Sarver for her love and commitment to taking care of Doug in his final days.

There will be no service at this time, but a memorial service will be held at a later date.
