Dorsey James McFarland, lovingly called "Jimmy" or "Jim Bob," peacefully passed away on April 9, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia, at the age of 77. Born on January 15, 1946, in Portsmouth, Virginia, he was the son of the late Cecil White McFarland and Hazel Mae Newcomb McFarland.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Lynette McFarland Simmons Hendricks, and we rejoice in their reunion in heaven.

Dorsey proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970, and we are eternally grateful for his service to our nation. He spent many years as a medical technician, working at Chesapeake Hospital and Labcorp Community, before joining the North Carolina Department of Transportation and Ferry Service. His passion for saltwater fishing led him to specialize in customizing fishing rods and reels, and his love for animals, fine cigars, gourmet cooking, and the history of wine and liquors was well-known among those who knew him.

Dorsey's passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends. Dorsey's memory will be cherished by his sisters, Natalie Josephine McFarland Mason and Mary Ann McFarland, and his brother, Gary White McFarland, Sr., as well as his nieces and nephews, whose lives he touched in profound ways.
