Obituary

Delbert James "Jim" Parks, 72, of Roanoke, Virginia, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. He was born in West Virginia on March 25, 1949, to the late Delbert Fernley and Nellie Florence Cook Parks. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Vaughn Richard Parks.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Leticia A. Parks; son, Bryan Parks and his wife Karen; daughter, Amalya Parks; grandchild, Marshall James Parks; step-grandchildren, Amanda Hall and her child, Stella Perry and Audrey Hall and her children, Elijah Parks and Isaiah Sexton; sister, Sherry Martin and her husband Thomas Martin, Sr. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Delbert loved to be the center of attention, he was quite the jokester, and always was pulling a prank or two. He enjoyed American Flyer trains and was in the group American Flyers. He was quick to tell a story or 50 and wouldn't care if it had been heard before. He also loved his cat, Houdini, who held a special place in his heart. Despite his enjoyment of being the center of attention, or pulling jokes, he always had stories to tell about his family, whom he loved dearly.

A special thank you to the oncologist at the Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Mark Kochenderfer, and his staff, for the great care of Mr. Parks during his illness.

Due to Covid there will be no services planned. In lieu of flowers, Delbert would like donations to be made to the American Cancer Association.
