Obituary

Deane Andrews Welch, passed away at home surrounded by family on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Deane was born to Joe and Doris Welch on May 16, 1964, in Charlottesville, VA, then grew up in Salem with his younger brother, Michael. He played sports, including baseball and football. He also helped his dad with various renovation projects on real estate in the area and with the antiques Joe collected and sold.

Deane's pride and joy were his children, Tylor and Taylor. He loved bragging about their accomplishments, taking every opportunity to express how proud he was of each of them. He enjoyed playing his guitars – a hobby he shared with Tylor. He loved making people laugh by cracking jokes and being silly. His wife and daughter took great pleasure in asking him about the rules of football and questioning why calls were made at Salem High School football games. He would explain in great detail and then let out an exasperated sigh when they proclaimed, "But that's not fair." or "That doesn't make sense!".

Deane worked various places over the years before finishing his career at Allstate from 2002-2018.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles "Joe" Welch.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Doris Welch; his wife, Suzy Welch; his children, Tylor Welch (Phee) and Taylor, all of Salem, Virginia; as well as his brother, Michael Welch (Marquette) of Asheville, North Carolina.

A special thank you goes out to Good Samaritan Hospice, especially nurses, Jenna Boerstler and Lottie Young.
