Darlene M. Jordan, 76, passed on May 5, 2026. Darlene, from Hardy Virginia, served her community as a nurse for 43 years and as a volunteer fire fighter with the Hardy Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Her most favored moments were being at the beach or sitting on her deck surrounded by friends. She enjoyed making meals for her family and was the glue that held her family together. Darlene was kind and generous and always considered everyone family. She loved animals and welcomed any unwanted critter, from chickens to goats, and of course many dogs and cats as well as feeding the many birds and squirrels that shared her beloved porch sitting time.

She is survived by her children (& their spouses); David (Beth) Custer, Ken (Vicki) Custer and Nancy (Charles) Brubaker, her grandchildren; Sarah, Alex, Kolby, Kala, Darrien, Victoria, Tyler, Chad and Emma, many beloved great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as cherished friend Cindy Morgan Wimmer.

She is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth Rudolph & Cleo Marie Pratt McCarty, siblings; Barbara Story, Carolyn Smith, Patricia Welch, Douglas McCarty, Kenneth (Butch) McCarty, Carolyn Smith, Roger McCarty and special friends; Cecil Morgan and Sandy Butterworth.

Her family will host a celebration of her life at Barnhardt Baptist Church on Saturday May 16 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in Goodview Virginia.
