Dan Gorman Counts, of Roanoke passed away on January 31, 2021, on a cold, snowy, beautiful winter day, which he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elihu Gorman and Claire Lorraine Hinson Counts; and sister, Elizabeth Ellen Counts.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Geraldine (Geri) Gibson Counts; stepchildren, Jessica Hurst Ellis (Jimmy), Joshua Alan Hurst (Donell), and John W. Smith, Jr.; step-grandchildren, Alexandra Graham Matherly (Wayne), Brittany Graham (Allen), Dakota Ellis (C.J.), Nicolas Smith, Arora Hurst, Joshua Dylan Hurst and (Angelica) and Elizabeth Hurst (Andy); step great-grandchildren, Ayla Smith, Jayden Vineyard, Emmett Graham, Elizabeth Nicole Hurst, Elaina Rose Darnell, Aria (Cahall) Hurst, Elena (Gregory) Hurst, Tristan Hurst, Isabella Matherly, and William Matherly; special friends, Grant, Rod, Milton, Doug, Jeff, Steve, Marc, Todd, Rodger, Tommy and so many more from childhood and music who always had a place in his heart. The Roanoke Times and Tad Dickens (CutNScratch) paid tribute to Danny on February 6, 2021 with a full-page article.

Danny was a musician who played for more than 50 years, starting at 16 years, his instrument was the bass guitar. Music was definitely his calling. He loved Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart and many other unusual artists, more the unusual, the better. He also loved classical and more complicated songs, and in other languages. For many years, music was his life and he enjoyed playing with his friends, David Bromberg and Steve Forbert. He played in many local bands over the years including The Flys, Leggz and The Royal Kings; married to a wife who thought she was the "lucky one" for over 20 years. He loved his two cats, Superman and Patches and treated them like babies, holding them and talking to them in silly voices.

He liked to travel and visited many countries, including his favorites, Norway and Switzerland during his life. He was an avid baseball fan and loved the Atlanta Braves the most he would count down the days until spring training and opening day.

He retired from Carilion Clinic after 15 years. He loved the people there but hated the alarm clock going off at 6 am. He also was an independent contractor courier for 20 years for BEI.

He was a member of Fountain of Life Church for over twenty years where he learned from pastor Todd Shell, the elders and his church family where he leaves behind many friends there. He was like a sponge and absorbed the word of God in his attendance and study of the word. He was a thoughtful, fun and funny person, and enjoyed long discussions and a good laugh. Above all, he loved the Lord and was ever his Servant and friend. He will be missed by all those who loved him, and he surely would want those who don't have a personal relationship with salvation through the blood of Christ, to make your confession of faith now, for no one is promised tomorrow.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, when all who loved him and will be able to gather together. In lieu of flowers donations can be mail to  705 Mtn. Meadows Dr., Vinton, VA 24179.
