Obituary

Clayton Harold "David" Akers, age 76, of Salem, Virginia, gained his angel wings Friday, September 17, 2021, joining his loving family in Heaven. He was born on September 26, 1944, to the late Clayton and Edith Mason Akers in Roanoke, Virginia

David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. Mr. Fix-it, as he was known to his family and friends could fix anything quickly and efficiently. Some of David's greatest accomplishments were his love of his family.  He loved camping at Camp Alta Mons, in Shawsville, Virginia where he retired after years of dedicated care of the property. David loved going fishing at Smith Mountain Lake where he always tried to catch the biggest fish.

Those left to cherish David's prized memories are his loving wife of 55 years, Doris Jefferson Akers; sons, David Akers and his partner, Becky, Byron Akers and his wife, Venus; daughter, Amy Sturgill, and her late husband, Jim; special grandchildren, Greg Simmons, Joshua Akers and his partner, Chasity, Joseph Akers, Miranda Akers, and partner Shawn, and Sara and husband Chris Wright; five step-grandchildren, Joshua, Cody, and Brady Draper, Jimmy and Garrett Sturgill; ten great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.

At David's request, there will not be any services planned. Please use this time to reflect on the memories that you shared with David in the guestbook below.
